Of course, the rankings lists that you see in magazines and on the Web are always partially a matter of opinion, but Texas-San Antonio typically is ranked among the two or three best in the country. Baylor is also often in the top 10 or so. UT-Houston is not. See the source for two such lists. Don't take their rankings as proof of anything, but I think you will generally find consensus that Baylor and and UT-San Antonio are very good choices. Good luck!!

I need information on San Antonio Texas?
I am looking for information on 1. School Districts which ones are good? 2. what areas are good to live in and why and what areas are bad to live and why? 3. What are the child care prices in the area? 4. What is diversty down there? 5. How open are Texans when it comes to religion? I live in Utah everyone here is mormon and you re looked at differently if you are no 6. Can anyone tell me what the smoking laws are? here in Utah we have the clean air act. 7. What are good restaurants? 8. What is the medical like? any other information would be here.

First off, San Antonio is a beautiful, clean city. It is highly diverse. Like all cities there are better and worse areas, your best bet would be to contact a good real estate agent because which area you live in will be determined on what you can afford. For your other questions the easiest thing to do would be to look it up on the city"s web page and use the contacts given there.

For top rated San Antonio schools, look here- http://www.greatschools.net/city/San_Antonio/TX San Antonio is a diverse city, large % hispanic, but a lot of German heritage in the area also. The cost of living is very reasonable compared to other metropolitan areas. The climate is nice- winters are usually fairly mild, but it can snow and get icy. Religion is also diverse, there are Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, etc- I have seen no evidence of anyone being looked at "differently" as you say, based on their religion. Austin, just to the north of San Antonio, is a pretty liberal city, and is a hub of arts and entertainment. It is a medical center of the entire SW. Smoking laws are thesame as the are everywhere I guess. We have them if thats what you mean. All things considered, its a good place to live, and a good place to raise a family.

I have till next Wednesday, which is when school starts. My Mom just got out of surgery on her legs and needs to get around walking. So far we've just been walking around the Marriot Hotel and staying in the room. I was wondering if their was a nice park or fun places we could visit in San Antonio considering the circumstances. You can go to six flags fiesta texas which is an amusement park. you can go to the river walk, they have this boat you can go on which is pretty fun, and they have some resturants around it. you can go shopping at la cantera, its a really nice mall, but if you really wanna shop in san marcos there is this outlet mall and it is GREAT! you can also go tubing in new braunfels along the camal river, or you can go to the tower of americas which is a really nice resturant you can go to!

Try to find a baby sitting job. Most businesses won't hire anyone under 16 and it would only be part time (20 hours a week or so) because of child labor laws.

For our 8th grade trip to Fiesta Texas San Antonio we live about 250 miles south of it in south texas.and I heard but dont know if its true that were taking greyhound(or some other big passenger bus)to fiesta texas.Should the school do this.I mean its better than taking the school buses.the bus drivers arnt even expiriences,i dont wanna die.....Its smarter to charter or whatever buses intstead of taking school buses that might brake down.Our school isint the richest school but I mean I dont think they would take us 250 miles upstate on a bus that might break down.....Opinions??

I would hope they would charter a bus - you may want to contact the school. Chartered bus usually comes equipped with a bathroom, DVD player which would make the trip a lot more enjoyable. Its definitely worth the extra expense

One that has a prayer night, bible study night, Friday night service, Sunday School, Sunday morning service and Sunday night service? The church that I went to in California had the above schedule, but I'm shocked that in San Antonio that churches only have one service for the whole week! Which church has a schedule similar to the above schedule?/ Sorry, I was making a general statement. So far, every church that I have seen meets once a week. I'm Apostolic, but willing to go to a Baptist church or something similar.

What's the best location to move in at San Antonio Texas?
What's the best location to move in at San Antonio Texas?
I'd be moving into San Antonio and I have 2 little kids. I will be working dowtown, but want to rent in more of a suburban & family oriented setting. I need recommendation on places that have the best elementary public schools that have a reputation for high standards & test achievements, least crime & maximum safety, middle to up-scale neighborhood of educated professionals with access to great shopping, dining, medical, etc. I do not mind driving 10-15 miles to work. I can pay about 700 to 1100 dollars in renting a 2-bed apartment. I would prefer not to live in or about a predominantly hispanic neighborhood. Can someone point me to some great SA neighborhoods please. LOL.

ABSOLUTELY! I used to live there. I found the perfect neighborhood. It's called French Creek Villiage and it's located on the the Northwest side. It's located just off of Bandera Road about 3 miles inside of the 1604 loop. The houses are fairly inexpensive and they range in variety of shapes and sizes. Do a search on http://maps.yahoo.com for Heatherington or George Kyle street in San Antonio. The neighborhood offers a very nice community pool and Tennis courts. The neighbors are awesome and very friendly. The pool has an active swim team throughout the summer for children. They have picnics at the pool for the whole neighborhood. For Halloween, almost everyone in the neighborhood decorates with illuminaries and then for Christmas, they have a hayride with Santa and there are apple cider stations on every street corner. It's a great place to raise kids. It's close to great shopping including 4 Starbucks, Kmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, restaurants, groceries, etc. O'Conner High School in Helotes is one of the best schools in the country. You won't regret checking this place out. If you're looking for something on the North East side, check out Universal City or Live Oak. I would avoid living in the inner city and especially stay away from Columbia Heights area located South Central. As far as not living by Hispanics, it's going to be almost impossible in San Antonio. The Hispanic population of San Antonio is over 70%. But don't be alarmed. Hispanic culture is unlike that of just about any other minority, especially in San Antonio. Most of which in the suburbs are professionals and are excellent neighbors. I found a great opportunity to raise my children in a diverse environment that was enriched with culture and very safe. Which Law school should I attend, St Mary's in San Antonio or South Texas College of Law in Houston, and why?
| Which Law school should I attend, St Mary's in San Antonio or South Texas College of Law in Houston, and why? I have been accepted into both St. Mary's and South Texas but am having a tough time deciding between the two. If you have any information that will help me make my decision, it would be greatly appreciated. FYI - I have an undergrad degree from UT Austin. If you would like to practice and live in San Antonio (or the surrounding area), then you should attend St. Mary's. If you would like to live in Houston, then you should attend South Texas. However, both schools carry very little weight outside of their respective markets. Nonetheless, moves to other markets can be done if one has outstanding grads. Not that it matters, but St. Mary's is much more UT friendly than South Texas. South Texas is almost the surrogate of Texas A&M. |

I am looking for a medical transcription (on campus not online) course in San Antonio from an accredited school (Techskills is not accredited). If not in san antonio, then between medina and san antonio texas. A class that is in depth enough to take the state RMT exam after completion. Googled till my head and eyes hurt. Please help. But, if you like working with people, aren't afraid of hard work and long hours, and can deal with being an "independent contractor" (no benefits), then this job can be a lot of fun, and eventually you can make a good living at it. I recently moved to San Antonio for school (college) and there's a tattoo I've been wanting to get but I have no clue whatsoever where to go. I go to school at UTSA, so it'd be nice if I could find somewhere that wasn't crazy far from there lol. I'm looking for a place that is reliable, safe, and that will be good (obviously). The tattoo I want is small and fairly simple, but it'd still be great if I knew where to go lol. Idk any of the places here or what part of town is safe etc. If anyone can recommend something that'd be awesome! :D They also need to be certified please :D

A while back i was looking to further my martial arts training and took some time to really figure out where i wanted to go next. My friend/formor KSW master introduced me to a friend of his who was a Hung Gar (or Hung Kuen) student in Austin Texas. I was really taken by some of the sets he demonstrated. He mentioned something about a Hung Gar school in san antonio and i never got a chance to find out where it was. I am asking anyone who might know of a resourse or something that would be a great place to start looking for this school (or another in the greater san antonio area) that teaches Hung Gar. I have a couple year of Kuk Sool Won under my belt, and about a year of Kenpo. Both I had a great time with but I really want to find soemthing that just screams "THIS IS THE ONE!". Well thanks in advance! take care.

My little sister and brothers were thinking of setting up a "food stand" at a local park near a middle school in San Antonio, Texas. They were thinking of selling lemonade, kool-aid, brownies, cookies, etc.. We've searched around online to see if it was legal or not but all came up inconclusive. Some sources said you needed a permit, some said you just need permission from the owner of the area you're setting up on, some said you could get fined, or just a warning.. etc.. Just wondering whether or not it would be a good idea to go ahead and let them set up without asking permission, or if it is illegal to do so. I would prefer if your answers came with a source.. a reliable source please. Thanks so much (:

Well, if you want to be a Vet Tech, Palo Alto offers that degree. If you want to be a veterinarian, Texas A&M is the only school in Texas that offers that degree.

There is also ITT Technical Institute. They have great on-line devices as well as they have where you can talk to the prof. when you have questions. When you get to a certain area of which ever emphasis you have they will send a whole kit for that. For example I am getting my associates degree in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on CSI. So when i get to a certain area in my classes the will send me a forensics kit. It is a really good school. But as always don't just take our advice, send off and get info on all the schools you choose before making a decision. Make sure they offer what you like and prices and things like that.

San Antoinio is almost all hispanic. I don't know of any areas that are mostly white, because there are many wealthy hispanic families there as well as poor hispanic families. Maybe private school would be your best bet for mostly white students, but I'm not even sure about that.

There are indeed some but most of them are private schools and/or out in Boerne. Oh, and I forgot. Clark High School is mainly made up of rich white kids. Ask any San Antonian. If you're afraid of bad quality, stay in the districts of Northeast, Northside or Alamo Heights. Despite attempts at diversity, rich white people run all of them. Come to think of it, that's mostly true of the entire country, lol. Do you not like Mexicans? Some of us are quite intelligent and we don't eat frijoles and fart and wear sombreros. I mean, look at Henry Cisneros, Mr. Hispanic Yuppie of the Century and Harvard graduate.

According to the breaking news weather alert on the TV, a list of schools and distriicts were closed due to the weather conditions for 2 days, tue & wed, including NEISD and Driscol Middle School. Days to be made up is up to the district on what days each school district will notify the parents and public.

People naturally seek out and coalesce into groups of similar characteristics. Whites, blacks, hispanics, all migrate into different areas and inevitably form white neighborhoods, black neighborhoods, hispanic neighborhoods. University campi attract (guess who) university students. I wouldn't call is defacto segregation. Watch a city grow and you'll see one neighborhood replaced by another. It's just the natural evolution of populations.

Cigarettes are bad enough but twice as many San Antonio kids using marijuana??? It appears marijuana is more widely available than I thought and our marijuana laws are useless, especially along the border. 7.3% of students in grades 7-9 reported past month use of tobacco cigarettes compared to 13.9% reporting past month use of marijuana. Nevertheless, it is disturbing that nearly 40 percent of San Antonio students have ever used marijuana by the time they reach the 9th grade compared to 23 percent for McAllen students.

Why are we the only school that is open tomorrow (college-wise)? If all the other schools are closed due to inclimate weather, why would they stay open when half of the ways to get to the schools are closed!!!! If anyone hears anything about them actually closing all day, let me know! I don't want to drive to SPC for nothing when I live on the Northside!

No need to be scared. In S.A., stick to schools on the northside of town. Northeast Independent & Northside school districts are well funded as the neighborhoods are affluent & that money goes to good use! I grew up on the west end of town & still recall taking anatomy class in my high school. As one of the upper GPA students we were allowed to take it. Schools will always call the local news stations and radio stations if school will be canceled.... Do you have a college degree? You must have a college degree to take teacher training classes and from you post above, I assume that you don’t. In the two sentence post above, you are missing 6 capital letters, a comma, and have congregated the verb “to be� incorrectly. Since teaching writing and grammar is a major part of being a teacher, I think you should either reconsider your career choice, or take a few remedial writing courses before you consider any teacher training

(Of course you may have missed that those whites want to segregate blacks, not hispanics) I have lately been horrified by the rampant integration in this city... I think they have forced almost 1 percent anglo and black kids into Harlandale. They are going to ruin that school. I think you will find Sammi that the Northeast and Northside School Districts are more the picture of integration that was envisioned in the 60s and 70s when I was a child than what you have in mind. Luckily we moved back to San Antonio and I did not have to deal with that. Nobody in my classes here which had always been mixed ever knew the difference. Only 300,000 are white so that won't be enough to be the majority, 200,000 are black, so they won't be the majority either, but we will get about 50,000 more Hispanic people so the majority will increase. Have you tried calling anyone there like the yearbook sponsor, or have you tried going to the downtown half price books where often times you will see a old yearbook from a high school or middle school for sale? One a former student has given to make an extra dollar or their kid has taken for an extra dollar? It happens. I know. .

Another possibility would be the teacher who sponsors the yearbook committee. Hello, my family and I are going to be moving to San Antonio Texas, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good dance school that my daughter could attend. She is currently in hip-hop, jazz, tap, ballet and gymnastics. Thanks!!!

You might try checking in the San Antonio Yellow Pages under "Dance Schools" or "Dancing Instructions". Her choices of dancing styles are good choices.... Except , I suggest that hip-hop is not a good choice, the music in the last few years has not made it in the top 25 of song sales in the last few years. And plus that type of music is being so associated with the street gangs of urban society. With gloried images of the violence, drug culture, thugs, etc. And the "Stop Snitching" thing they came up with saying "Don't talk to the Cops of any crime that our boys did or we'll be coming for your head."

This year I'll be entering the 8th grade at Wood Middle School and I'm really looking forward to high school and college. I'm really into photography and I'm not sure if Roosevelt High School--where I'll attend--has any photography courses. I already went to their website and looked everywhere but I couldn't find anything on photography. I already plan to go to Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and get a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA). The best ones acdemically and sports are probably Reagan HS and maybe O'Connor HS - old school greats are Churchill, Alamo Heights, MacArthur, etc... Worst high schools are Edgewood and most of the Southside and SAISD high schools out there, but thats just because of gang activity and lower income neighborhoods.... if I had a kid out of all the public schools I would want him to attend Alamo Heights HS

They are very accepting young people who do very well academically as well. My three brothers and sisters all graduated from the Heights (I in NB), as did my oldest son and I find the people in the Heights to be quite pretentious as are those in Stone Oak. It is very sad.

I was recently denied to ut of austin and was offer their Cap program. I was interested in utsa. I was wondering how hard are the classes and if it is good school to go for a year?

I would say YES. UTSA is one of the fastest growing universities in texas and has a very nice campus. It is located on in a good section of the city. I am from san antonio and I would love to go back. Right now I am at college station for A&M and engineering but had I done things again i would have stayed back home because to tell you the truth I am a city person.
